Calling all musicians! Do you play an instrument or sing? We need you!

Join the Community Musician Corps and use your talents to help supplement school and community ensembles.

Due to the pause from the pandemic, many school music programs in our region have struggled to retain and recruit members while performing wasn’t an option. As these ensembles begin performing again, we want to support the students and teachers in our community by reinforcing parts as needed. It can feel isolating and discouraging to be exposed as the only one playing or singing a part, but with the help of the CMC volunteers a student musician/singer will never have to experience this stressful situation.

While the pandemic exposed the need for this support, the RSO anticipates this as a new ongoing program. This is a new program, and we have not begun to take teacher requests yet, but as the 2022-23 school year begins, we hope to have a robust pool of volunteers available to fill needs as they arise.

Community Musician Corps (CMC) members will be asked to pay a $20 annual registration fee to cover the cost of an annual background check to be a school volunteer. Members will have access to free workshops throughout the year to strengthen their musicianship skills. When you register, you will be added to the CMC database listing your instrument/voice part. When teachers request help for your instrument or voice part, all CMC members registered for that area will be notified with the volunteer opportunity and relevant details. You can then decide if this is the right fit for you.

What might I do as a member of the Community Musician Corps?

  • Play/sing in a concert, attending one rehearsal and the performance.

  • Play/sing for a special rehearsal to help a student learn or strengthen their part.

  • Play in the “pit” for a school’s musical theater production.

As a member of the CMC, you will always be in a room with a licensed teacher present, and will not be asked to give individual lessons of any kind.
