About the Program

Two Silk Road favorites in the first half - Colin Jacobsen’s Ascending Bird is a fantastic, rhythmic, infectious opener for strings and percussion. Dinuk Wijeratne's Tabla Concerto is a unique, engaging, accessible, cross-cultural blend of sounds. It will be brought to life by one of the most engaging and virtuosic performers I've ever worked with - Sandeep Das - who describes the concerto as "...simply the best Western classical piece written for my instrument". In the second half we will dance our way through Prokofiev's timeless music inspired by Shakespeare's immortal tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.
