RPS Instrument Zoo

Each year 5th grade students in the Rockford Public School District visit an Instrument Zoo to try out different instruments and (hopefully!) sign up for music classes for their 6th grade year.

The Rockford Symphony Orchestra is partnering with Rockford Public Schools' Fine Arts Department to recruit volunteers to help with the 2019 Instrument Zoo, taking place on December 16, 17, 18, and 19 from 8:45am - 12:00pm at middle schools in the RPS 205 district.

Knowledge of musical instruments is not required! Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help at individual instrument stations with embouchure and technique on a specific instrument.
  • Help with cleaning instruments in-between students.
  • Help with being available to direct students (crowd control)

Click the button below to register to spend a morning making a deep impact in the life of a child and music education in our community.

Once registered, an RPS 205 staff member will contact you directly to give you information on which Middle School you will be placed at. You will also need to complete and return the district's Volunteer Information Form.
