The Rockford (Illinois) Symphony Orchestra announces an opening for the position of Music Director beginning with the 2022-2023 season. The Rockford Symphony operates with a $1.4 million budget and gives six classical and four pops concerts per season, along with other community and education programs. Rockford is a city of 150,000 with a metropolitan area population of 300,000. It is located 90 miles northwest of Chicago. The orchestra plays in the beautifully restored Coronado Theatre. The Rockford Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1934 and Steven Larsen has been its music director since 1991. He has informed us that the 2020-2021 season will be his last. We are seeking a conductor whose working style is collaborative, and who has, in addition to the musical talents required of a conductor, interesting and innovative ideas about audience development and community engagement. We are looking for a music director who will help lead a process of re-imagining what our role should be in the 21st century. The search committee is being assisted by Henry Fogel.
A cover letter and resume should be sent to: email@example.com
Electronic applications only please. At this stage there is no need to provide video material or references. While the search process will remain open until the final candidates are chosen, the search committee will begin reviewing applications on November 15, 2019.
