Rockford, IL – Join the Rockford Symphony Orchestra for its Opening Night performance on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the beautiful Coronado Performing Arts Center.
Steven Larsen begins his 25th Season conducting the RSO with the inspiring music of the masters including a salute to literary master, Shakespeare, in commemoration of 450 years since his passing.
The RSO’s first classic performance will include the lively showmanship of pianist David Syme performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Syme, an American piano virtuoso living in Ireland, has had a long and colorful career. He has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, and in major venues in 17 European countries, Canada, and Mexico.
On Friday October 2, Music Director Steven Larsen will conduct an informal and enlightening discussion with guest artist David Syme during RSO’s regular lecture program called, “Sound Bites”.
SoundBites is held at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club prior to each classics performance in the 2015/16 season SoundBites is a free event. Individuals can purchase lunch, RSVPs are recommended by email or by calling 815-965-0049.
RSO Maestro Steven Larsen introduces the audience to background information on composers and musical selections in a lecture at 6:30 pm, one-hour prior to the Classics Concert performances. The lecture is free to all ticket holders.
Pre-concert lectures are an excellent way to prepare for the concert experience. Mr. Larsen's considerable knowledge, presentation of information, and sense of humor enrich the performance.
