RSO Opens with Gershwin

American pianist David Syme is makes
his third appearance with the RSO.
Based in Houston, Texas Mr. Syme also shares his time in County Cork, Ireland where he performs a series of in-home concerts during the summer months.
With a vast repertoire of works for piano and orchestra, Mr. Syme has emerged in recent years as a pre-eminent and definitive interpreter of George Gershwin’s music for piano and orchestra. His live recorded rendition of Gershwin‘s Concerto in F was described by James North in Fanfare magazine as the premier version of this piece.
In addition to his appearance in Rockford, in the 2011/12 season Mr. Syme will present six recitals in the Czech Republic and Russia, as well as concerts in Boston; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Pacific Palisades, CA; Boca Raton, FL; and several cities in Arizona.
Mr. Syme has appeared at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and in major venues in 17 European countries, Canada, and Mexico. He has recorded 25 concertos on 19 CD’s with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, the Vienna Symphony, and Czech National Symphony. Recent and forthcoming concerto engagements have featured the Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Schumann, Liszt E-Flat, Gershwin, and Rachmaninoff 2nd and 3rd concertos with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Europe. His performance of Rachmaninoff‘s 3rd piano concerto was heralded by the Arizona Daily Star as “nothing shy of spectacular”.
A protégé of the legendary Jorge Bolet (at Indiana University), he was schooled in the grand tradition of the great masters, and also studied with Ozan Marsh (at the University of Arizona), Sascha Gorodnitzki, Ania Dorfmann (at The Juilliard School), Louis Kentner, and Constance Keene. He has received career support from the La Gesse Foundation and Princess Cecilia de Medici, who have presented him in concerts in the U.S. and Europe.
