Sibelius: Symphony No. 5
Sibelius dedicated much of his work in homage to Finland,
finding inspiration in the myths and folklore
of his homeland. His fifth symphony, enduring multiple
rewrites until the composer was satisfied, proved one
of his most triumphant works.
Trombonist Megumi Kanda will perform the first-ever
concerto for the instrument. Born in Tokyo in 1975,
Megumi has quickly demonstrated her mastery of this
often male-dominated member of the brass family and
is principal trombonist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra,
one of the top orchestras in the nation.
