PROKOFIEV Violin Concerto No. 2
RAUTAVAARA Cantus Articus
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 7
Michael Abels celebrates the fall of the Berlin Wall
and the thaw of the Cold War with an exuberant orchestration
of world cultures. Prokofiev’s violin concerto
captures the mood of the Stalinist era with dark and
lyrical themes, played by the young and charismatic
violinist Tim Fain. Famed Finnish composer Einojuhani
Rautavarra, fascinated by the perennial migration of
artic birds, creates an unforgettable journey to the
ice caps at the top of the globe with his ethereal
and captivating music. And Beethoven’s symphony—bursting
with rhythmic vitality and spirit—gave the Viennese
public cause to dance at the end of Napoleon’s
oppressive occupation.
Tim Fain has “…sheer
youthful exuberance and dazzling technical skill.”
